The Complete Works of Shakespeare Can't Be Far Behind

My younger daughter, Thing 2, just turned 5. She is in Pre-Kindergarten, and will be starting Kindergarten in August. She knows her alphabet and her numbers, and spends a lot of time practicing her letters. Mostly, it's random letters thrown together. The only word she knows how to write is her name.

She has a miniature white board that hangs on her bedroom door, with a marker, and will often use that to practice words. Yesterday, completely by accident, she wrote the word ELF. When my wife pointed this out to her, she was incredibly proud of herself and declared that she would never erase that whiteboard.

Now if we can just team her up with an infinite number of monkeys and an infinite number if typewriters, she'll be able to recreate all of Shakespeare's works, seeing as show she already has a good start on "A Midsummer Night's Dream."

  1. Good to see you back Steve. Hope that you had a great holiday.

  2. In the meantime though she'll just churn out nonsensical rubbish, like scripts for Two And A Half Men.

  3. I don't like this Steve. You should teach her how to spell "cool". You don't want her dressed in L.O.T.R.'s gear at a "DragonCon" when she gets older!

  4. The really amazing thing is she was refering to Extremely Low Frequency radio.

She may be trying to communicate with subs.

  5. If she’s writing words from randomly-chosen letters, you should just be grateful it wasn’t something worse. A lot worse. How would you have felt if she’d written ‘Sarah Palin’ for example?

  6. Thanks Rhino, it was a great holiday season.

Yobbo, I can see her penning the 4th entry in the "Three Men and a...." franchise (the third one, where the little girl gets married, is coming out in a year). Or perhaps a future remake of Red Dawn.

Heidi, I'm counteracting that by teaching her to laugh at such people. Loving the books is one thing. LOVING the books, is entirely different.

Naut, maybe it's a signal that she's just really really really into fuels used in Formula 1 race cars?

Simon, I can safely say that by the time she finishes Kindergarten, she will be as qualified as Palin to be governor of Alaska.

  7. What's wrong with DragonCons? HAHA

  8. Keep a close eye on her. She may have been simply plagiarizing the screenplay for the movie "Elf."

  9. All right! But I too am concerned that she's writing titles of Will Ferrell movies. I suggest that if you find 'Talladega Nights' written on the whiteboard, get her some help.

You folks getting thawed out down there? I've seen clips of some nasty spinouts and wrecks due to the ice in Georgia.

  10. Indy, what's RIGHT with DragonCons?

Ian, there are better Christmas movies for her to plagiarize.

YD, I'd be more worried if she was using the Coen brothers as influences. I would have to hide my chipper/shredder.

And we're getting thawed. Most of those spinouts were due to people driving NASCAR style on days when they should be driving much more gently.
